Club Road Race Championship Standings 2009
Last updated: Wednesday, 28 October, 2009
The final round of the Club Road Race Championships took place at East Hanney on Sunday, 11 October with the last opportunity to pick up championship points being at the Abingdon Marathon last Sunday. The weather was cold and damp with a persistent drizzle greeting the runners half–way round the course. This didn’t deter our athletes from turning out on the day.
With the Club Road Race Championships already settled there were still p.b. targets and honour at stake. An excellent turnout by the Harriers ensured there would be plenty of rivalry. Plus, our ladies turned out in force as well – where have you all been?! (I know, you must have all been in summer training for the cross country season!)
Paul Jégou wrapped up his championship-winning season with another strong performance leading the Harriers across the line to finish in 8th place overall. Tim Hughes was six places adrift finishing in 14th position overall and in doing so was the first across the line in the male V55 category. Chris Wilder, on his comeback trail after injury earlier in the year, finished in a highly creditable 18th position eight places ahead of Dan Peace who finished in 26th place.
John Peake unfortunately failed to break the 30 minute barrier by just 14 seconds and had to settle for 32nd place with Simon Leech twelve places further back in 44th position. Adrian Evans was our next Harrier over the line in 66th place just holding off the attention of Graham Wiggins who finished in 68th position.
Sheila Bailey making a welcome return to the road led the way home for our ladies finishing in 96th place with Ros Burgess finishing over a minute adrift in 112th position. Peter Bainbridge was next across the line in 141st place just pipping Clare Hazell (142nd) by two seconds. Catherine Wainwright also on her way back after injury managed comfortably to finish inside the 40–minute mark crossing the line in 152nd place.
Karen Froud was our next lady home crossing the line in 178th place with Castel Fairlie finishing in 194th position rounding off the Harrier ladies results. Finally, Dene Stringfellow managed to crawl over the line in 198th position – sadly failing to break the 45–minute mark (truly pathetic!) – to round off all the Harrier performances.
Congratulations go to Tim Hughes for his excellent result and finally to Paul Jégou, Clare Hazell and John Peake on the championship victories.
(Please Note: The points for the marathon results have now been included in the over final championship standings.
We hope you have enjoyed the road race championship season this year. If you have any comments or feedback please do not hesitate to contact Dene Stringfellow . We look forward to seeing you all out at the cross country fixtures over the winter!
Below is the table for the White Horse Harriers’ men’s road race championship for 2009 after the final event in the club road race calendar held at Tilsley Park, Abingdon on Sunday, 18 October.
Please also note, if you find or are aware of any error(s), please inform either Dene Stringfellow or Simon Atkin so the results tables can be updated accordingly – provided there is corroborating evidence, of course!
